FAQ

Questions we know
you're already thinking.

PawPal is pre-launch — so we answered the questions that matter most before anyone even had to ask.

Is PawPal really free for volunteers?
Being a Pal is completely free — and that's not a tier or a loophole, it's the model. PawPal covers the cost of background checks, certification, and annual re-screening for every Pal. Our revenue comes from pet parents, not from the people giving their time. You bring the love for dogs. We handle the rest.
When does PawPal launch and what cities will it be in first?
San Francisco first, then city by city. Sign up for the waitlist and you'll be first to know when we hit yours.
How is PawPal different from platforms like Rover or Wag?
Rover and Wag charge $20–35 per walk and take 31–40% commission — that's roughly $400/month if your dog needs 5 walks a week. Anyone can sign up on those platforms and set their rate to zero — but that's a loophole, not a community. PawPal is built differently: pet parents pay $19/month for unlimited sessions with verified, background-checked, certified Pals — a potential saving of $380+ per month. Pals are always free. And unlike other platforms, we require annual re-screening, social ID verification, and pet insurance — things Rover and Wag simply don't ask for.
How do you verify Pals and keep my dog safe?
Every Pal goes through an enhanced background check, connects 2 social media accounts for identity verification, and completes a mandatory dog safety certification — all before session one. Unlike other platforms who screen once and never again, PawPal requires annual re-screening. Sessions are public only — no unsupervised home access, ever. And a Meet & Greet is required before any first session, so you've approved every Pal before anything is booked.
What if something goes wrong during a session?
Pet insurance is required for all owners before their first match — it's the single biggest gap on other platforms. Our full incident policy will be shared with every member before launch.
Will the same Pal be with my dog every time?
Always your choice. Once you've done your Meet & Greet and approved a Pal, you can request them every time. Dogs thrive on familiar faces — and you'll never be randomly assigned someone new.
Will my dog be with other dogs or just one Pal?
Your call, set in your dog's profile. Solo or open to other dogs — every Pal must respect your preferences. Note any quirks upfront and they're factored into every match.
Can Pals do more than just walk dogs?
Yes — that's the point. Pals can walk, run, play, or simply hang out with your dog. Not every dog needs a five-mile run. Sometimes they just need company, a trip to the park, or someone to sit with them for an hour. You and your Pal decide together what works best for your dog.
Why is $19/month the price?
$19/month is the founding member rate — one walk on Rover costs more than a full month on PawPal. This price is locked in for everyone who joins before launch. The regular price after launch will be $29/month. If you're on the waitlist, you're getting the best price PawPal will ever be.
Is there an app?
Not yet — web first, then iOS and Android. Waitlist members get founding pricing when the app drops. We'd rather do this right than rush it.
Do I need pet insurance to sign up as an owner?
Yes — required before your first match. It's not a hurdle, it's the responsible move for your dog and your Pal. We'll share affordable options when we launch.
